APC Warns Suspended Rivers Governor Fubara: Only Real Peace Talks Can Stop Impeachment

Image
The Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, that he could still be impeached unless he truly tries to make peace with state lawmakers. During a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Tony Okocha, said that Fubara has not made any real effort to talk with or settle issues with the elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. “I can tell you clearly that there is no peace effort going on in Rivers right now. The suspended governor has not tried to make peace with the lawmakers. Only a true and honest reconciliation can protect him from impeachment,” Okocha said. At the same time, some youth groups in Rivers State asked President Bola Tinubu to bring back democratic leadership in the state and reinstate Fubara before Democracy Day on June 12. Back on March 18, 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and sus...

Abuja International Conference Centre Renamed After Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Abuja International Conference Centre will now be called the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre . This happened on Tuesday when President Tinubu reopened the newly renovated building. He also said that all government offices must now pay to use the centre. This payment will help take care of the place and keep it in good condition. The President’s adviser, Bayo Onanuga, shared this news in a statement titled: ‘Abuja International Conference Centre Renamed In President Tinubu’s Honour, As He Mandates Payment For Its Use.’ President Tinubu said he was shocked by how bad the place looked when he visited in April 2024 for an ECOWAS Parliament event. “The place was dirty, disorganised, and not fit for use,” Tinubu said. “I told Mr Wike that the centre did not represent Nigeria well. He promised to fix it — and today, I’m happy with the result.” The President said the International Conf...

Wike Credits G5 Governors for Nigeria’s Political Stability, Urges PDP to Embrace Unity and Rule of Law

Image
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has credited the relative political stability in Nigeria to the bold decisions taken by the G5 governors during the 2023 general elections. Wike made the statement on Monday during a meeting with Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his official residence in Abuja. In attendance were former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, PDP National Secretary Sam Anyanwu, current and former lawmakers, and party delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Addressing the gathering, Wike reaffirmed that the G5 governors—who opposed the presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—acted in the nation’s best interest by upholding the PDP’s zoning principle, which they argued required that the presidency be zoned to the South after eight years of Northern leadership under Muhammadu Buhari. “You may like us or hate us, but the truth remains that...

PDP’s Segun Sowunmi Open to Working With Tinubu, Says He’ll Resign If Appointed

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has declared his readiness to work with President Bola Tinubu and said he would formally resign from the opposition party if offered a role in the current administration. Sowunmi made the statement on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today , following a recent meeting with President Tinubu. “There has never been a doubt that I can work with him. None at all,” Sowunmi said. When asked directly if he would accept a political appointment, he replied, “I don’t do that type of nonsense. If I’m going to work with the president, I will leave the PDP. I wouldn’t mix the two.” Despite previously criticizing the APC-led government — calling it “rudderless” and accusing it of “ethnic concentration and lopsidedness” — Sowunmi now praises Tinubu’s leadership qualities. “Yes, I held those views at a point,” he admitted. “But I’ve also known the president for a long time. He is mentally and psychologic...

Fayose Warns PDP Risks Becoming “Carcass,” Commends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Image
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has voiced strong concerns over the dwindling relevance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that without urgent reforms, the party risks becoming a “carcass.” Speaking on Monday after a private visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, Fayose dismissed speculation about his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “Let me be clear: Ayo Fayose is not leaving the PDP for any political party — not even the APC. I’m turning 65 this year,” he stated. Despite reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Fayose delivered a harsh critique of the party's current state, describing it as deeply troubled. “Without doubt, the PDP is in trouble — and that’s the gospel truth. If urgent steps are not taken, the party will soon become a carcass,” he warned. Fayose’s comments come amid a spate of defections from the PDP to the APC, as prominent politicians express discontent with the party’s direction and increasing admiration fo...
