Abuja International Conference Centre Renamed After Tinubu
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Abuja International Conference Centre will now be called the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
This happened on Tuesday when President Tinubu reopened the newly renovated building. He also said that all government offices must now pay to use the centre. This payment will help take care of the place and keep it in good condition.
The President’s adviser, Bayo Onanuga, shared this news in a statement titled: ‘Abuja International Conference Centre Renamed In President Tinubu’s Honour, As He Mandates Payment For Its Use.’
President Tinubu said he was shocked by how bad the place looked when he visited in April 2024 for an ECOWAS Parliament event.
“The place was dirty, disorganised, and not fit for use,” Tinubu said.
“I told Mr Wike that the centre did not represent Nigeria well. He promised to fix it — and today, I’m happy with the result.”
The President said the International Conference Centre is now part of Nigeria’s bigger plan to be a top place for important meetings in Africa and across the world. He said this supports the idea of putting “Nigeria First.”
He praised Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, the company that fixed the building, for doing excellent work. He said the company has always done a good job in Nigeria.
President Tinubu also promised to continue fixing important places and systems in Nigeria, like roads, hospitals, schools, power, and cities — as part of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
He praised Minister Wike for completing the renovation quickly — within one year of shutting down the centre.
“Don’t listen to people who try to distract you,” Tinubu told Wike.
“You are a great leader with clear goals and strong will. Keep up the good work.”
More Praise from the Senate President
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also praised the project. He said it was good that halls in the centre were named after the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria. He praised how well the government branches are working together under Tinubu’s leadership.
Wike said the building was changed completely in only eight months because of Tinubu’s strong leadership.
“Many presidents came here before,” Wike said, “but you were the only one who said the place was not good enough. You had the courage and the vision to make this change happen.”
Wike also said that everyone, including government offices, must now pay to use the centre.
“No more free use for weddings or events just because someone knows someone,” he said.
“To keep this place beautiful, everyone must pay something to use it.”
The new Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre is one of many big projects the President is opening to celebrate his second year in office.
