Lagos Police Deploy Tactical Teams Ahead of Eid el-Kabir to Ensure Safety Across the State

The Lagos State Police Command has unveiled a comprehensive security strategy aimed at guaranteeing a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Eid el-Kabir celebration across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.

According to the statement, the Commissioner has directed the immediate deployment of tactical, conventional, and specialized police units throughout Lagos to proactively prevent criminal activities during the festive period.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the immediate deployment of conventional officers, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Eko Strike Force, and other tactical squads of the Nigeria Police Force to strategic locations across Lagos,” the statement read.

In addition, anti-crime teams have been dispatched to known black spots, criminal hideouts, and other high-risk areas to bolster public confidence and eliminate fear of insecurity among residents and visitors.

To further reinforce security coverage, the Police Command has deployed highly trained personnel from elite units, including:

  • Police Mobile Force (PMF)

  • Counter-Terrorism Unit

  • Special Protection Unit

  • Intelligence Department

  • Anti-Bomb Squad

These teams are supported by Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and mobile patrol units, which will be stationed at key locations such as:

  • Eid prayer grounds

  • Mosques and religious centers

  • Event venues and public celebration spots

  • Recreation centers and parks

The command emphasized that these deployments aim to safeguard both Muslim faithful and non-Muslims participating in the celebrations.

The Lagos State Police Command also assured residents that crowd control, traffic management, and public safety are top priorities during the festivities.

“Special attention is being paid to recreation centres and public spaces where large gatherings are expected. These areas will be well-secured to ensure seamless movement and maintain public order,” the statement added.

To maintain long-term security and order, the police will collaborate with other law enforcement and safety agencies, including:

  • The Military

  • Paramilitary Forces

  • Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)

  • Relevant State Departments and Agencies

The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and stability before, during, and after Eid el-Kabir, noting that joint operations and real-time surveillance will be employed across the state.
