Federal Government Says Civil Service Will Go Fully Paperless by December

The Federal Government has announced that the Nigerian Civil Service will stop using paper completely and go fully digital by December 31, 2025.

This was revealed on Wednesday by Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. She made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja as part of activities for the 2025 African Public Service Day and Civil Service Week.

Walson-Jack explained that the move is part of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (2021–2025), which ends this year.

“Even before I became Head of Service, the Office of the Head of Civil Service had already gone paperless,” she said.
“We are now working fast to make sure all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) also stop using paper.”

She said that just last week, she visited the Federal Ministry of Health to launch their digital document system, making them the 11th ministry to go paperless. She added that other ministries are also making progress.

“We’ve brought in partners to help with the cost of going digital in some ministries.
The countdown to December 31, 2025, has started. With dedication and God’s help, the Nigerian Civil Service will be fully digital by the end of this year,” she said.

Dr. Walson-Jack also shared some of the events planned to celebrate African Public Service Day and Civil Service Week 2025.
