President Tinubu Mourns Kano Athletes Killed in Tragic Road Accident

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident that claimed the lives of members of the Kano State contingent returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

In a condolence message released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the incident as a “devastating blow to the nation.” He extended heartfelt sympathies to the Government and people of Kano State, as well as to the bereaved families.

“This tragedy casts a shadow over the National Sports Festival — an event that celebrates unity, talent, and national excellence,” the statement read.

A Nation in Mourning

President Tinubu paid tribute to the victims, commending their passion, dedication, and aspirations, which he said represented the enduring spirit of the Nigerian youth.

“Their lives and dreams embodied the resilient Nigerian spirit. Their loss is felt not only in Kano but across the nation,” he added.

Commitment to Safer Roads

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving transportation safety nationwide to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“The greatest honour we can give them is to take real steps toward enhancing the safety of our transportation systems,” Tinubu said.

He assured Nigerians that reforms and increased safety standards are a priority to protect lives during interstate travel, especially for national events involving young people and athletes.
