President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday, May 31, as part of his official visit to Lagos, the Presidency announced on Monday.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the landmark infrastructure projects under Tinubu’s administration. Saturday’s inauguration will also include other key projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the launch of Section II of the Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.

According to a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President will also virtually commission several critical road projects across northern Nigeria. These include the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II, Yakasai-Zalli Road, Kano Northern By-pass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.

President Tinubu will arrive in Lagos on Tuesday to also participate in activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where he currently serves as Chairman.

The ECOWAS golden jubilee celebrations, which began in Accra in April 2025, will continue in Lagos with a series of commemorative events. A reenactment of the 1975 founding declaration is scheduled to take place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.

At the Eko Hotels and Suites, President Tinubu will deliver a keynote address reflecting on the achievements of the regional bloc. He will be joined by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), the only surviving signatory to the original ECOWAS declaration, who is expected to give a special commemorative speech.

Other notable speakers include ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Touray and former External Affairs Minister, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, who will lead a reflective review of the organisation’s five-decade journey, supported by expert panellists at the NIIA.

President Tinubu is expected to observe the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House Mosque, Dodan Barracks, before departing for Abuja.
